On August 17, 2015, in Hà Nội, Finland - Vietnam Innovation Partnership Program Stage 2 (IPP2) launched the Innovation Accelerator Training Program (IAP).

The program is six-month long (from August 2015 to January 2016), which started with 6-day boot camp and intensive training courses for innovation sub-projects funded under IPP2, from August 17 to 22, 2015 in Hà Nội.

The accelerator program has been designed for internationally oriented high-growth startups as well as consortiums which develop the innovation system locally in 4 key local areas, which are Hà Nội, Hồ Chí Minh City, Đà Nẵng and Cần Thơ.

The launching ceremony had attendance of Mr. Phùng Bảo Thạch, Director of the Department of International Cooperation – Ministry of Science and Technology; Ms. Annina Barbosa – Finland’s Deputy Ambassador in Hà Nội; high-level representatives from agencies under from Ministry of Science and Technology, members of the Steering Committee, the Management Board of IPP2 Program, a team of international trainers and local facilitators, trainers on innovation of IPP2 and groups of innovation start-ups and consortiums which develop the innovation system funded by IPP2.

The IPP2’s Innovation Accelerator Training Program consists of following contents:

For high-growth innovative companies – IPP supports startups with innovation projects which develop products and services which are new to the Vietnamese market and have the potential to be exported to international markets. These innovations must create exponentially greater value for customers, rather than incremental improvements that make existing products better or cheaper. IPP2 has selected 19 sub-projects from the time of calling project proposals in 2015 with initial financial support and technical assistance from IAP.

For Innovation system development – IPP supports innovation system development projects which aim to make the local innovation ecosystem healthy and provide better services for high-growth startups. 4 innovation system development projects have been selected from the time of calling project proposals in 2015 as well as provided with initial financial support and technical assistance from IAP.

Key contents of the Innovation Accelerator Program consists of: The 6-day intensive training, which is the Boot Camp and Training Program from August 17 to 22, 2015; Monthly or bi-weekly workshops and networking events delivered by international guest speakers as well as local successful businessmen and consultants; Some of the workshops will be open for the wider startup community and startup development ecosystem;

Mid-term and final demo days, where innovation teams will pitch their projects in the front of domestic and international angel investors, venture capital and private equity funding as well as other interested stakeholders; IPP innovation consultants working with the startup teams on weekly basis.

The best performing projects might receive additional grant from IPP as well as other investors.

Finland - Vietnam Innovation Partnership Program Stage 2 (IPP2)

Innovation Partnership Program (IPP) is an Official Development Assistance (ODA) program financed jointly by the Governments of Vietnam and Finland. The IPP’s Stage 2 will be implemented in 4 years, from March 2014 to February 2018. IPP aims to promote Vietnam’s national innovation system, which will actively contribute to the country’s social and economic development. The executive agencies of the Program is the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam
