Attending the meeting were over 300 delegates, including leaders and representatives of the organizations of Ministry of Science and Technology, representatives of the relevant ministries and agencies, leaders of Hai Phong city and of relevant departments of Haiphong, representatives of the Departments of Science and Technology and nearly 100 typical radiation facilities all over the country. The meeting had also the honor of receiving over 50 international delegates from International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), foreign companies in the field of nuclear energy in Vietnam, nuclear regulatory bodies and technical support organizations of Russia, Japan, USA, Thailand, Bulgaria, ...
Addressing his opening speech at the meeting, Minister Nguyen Quan appreciated VARANS achievements after 10 years of establishment and development that has established a unified system of state management of the radiation and nuclear safety from central to local levels.
He emphasized, in the present context, the key tasks of VARANS are completing the system of legal documents, standards and technical regulations related to nuclear safety, security and safeguards and strengthening the capacity of human resources and infrastructure to implement the Strategy of atomic energy application for peaceful purposes and especially national nuclear power project.
He also expressed his confidence, with efforts of VARANS leaders and staff, along with the interest of the Party, the State leaders and cooperation of international agencies, VARANS will be growing and fulfill its responsibilities.
On that occasion, VARANS had the honor of receiving the of Certificate of Merit by the Prime Minister for its achievements.
Minister Nguyen Quan also presented the Medal 'For the cause of science and technology' to Mr. Allan Murray, Head of Regional Security of Radioactive Sources Project (RSRS), Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization (ANSTO), Mr. Frederic Allen Morris, Head of Project supporting state management infrastructure, National Nuclear Security Agency, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE/NNSA), Mr. Masaki Nakagawa, Director of the Training Center for nuclear power developing countries, Office of International Programs, Japan Nuclear Energy Safety Organization (JNES), Mr. Satoru Toshimitsu, Chief Representative of the Office of Japan International Nuclear Energy Development Company (JINED), Mr. Kirk Foggie, the Team Leader in charge of international cooperation activities with Japan, Vietnam and Southeast Asia, US. Nuclear Regulatory Agency (US. NRC) and Ms. Svetlana G. Gradoboeva, Deputy General Director, EPT, Rosatom.
At the meeting, 17 organizations and 12 individuals have been awarded the Certificate of Merit by Minister of Science and Technology for achievements in radiation and nuclear safety management from 2008 to 2012.
During the framework of the meeting, the first National Nuclear Regulatory Conference and the National Conference on Radiation Protection Officers took place.
