From September 7-10, 2015, in Hà Nội, Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Agency (VARANS) coordinated with Japan’s Nuclear Regulation Agency (NRA) to organize the Training course on prevention of fire risks inside and outside Nuclear Power...

This was the training course organized only for VARANS’ staff on assessment of Safety Assessment Report (SAR) of NPPs. Purposes of the Training courses were to share Japan’s knowledge and experience on prevention of fire risks inside and outside NPPs as well as develop relevant guidelines and standards.

Delivering the opening speech at the Training course, Deputy Director Cấn Văn Minh emphasized that Việt Nam has promoted preparation activities for the construction of the first NPP, in which safety is identified as the first important factor. Currently, VARANS, Việt Nam’s Nuclear Regulation Agency, has been building technical capacities for appraising and assessing the safety. Knowledge transfer, training, experience sharing in this field from countries with developed nuclear power as Japan are extremely important. The Deputy Director also expressed his sincere thanks to NRA’s experts, who have participated in this training course and hoped to strengthen more cooperation between Việt Nam’s NRA and that of Japan.

NRA’s representative said that in 2014, NRA and VARANS signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in field of regulations on radiation and nuclear safety and usage of nuclear power for peaceful purposes. This training course was one of cooperation activities within the MOU’s framework. After the Fukushima’s incident, Japan has revised and updated some standards on NPP including those on fire prevention inside and outside NPPs. In this training course, NRA’s exports, through lectures and exchanges, would share useful information and experience to VARANS on assessing SAR on the content relating to fire prevention inside and outside NPPs./.
